Leveraging Oracle APEX and Generative AI to unify project reporting for Siemens Energy.
In collaboration with Miracle, a transition was made from fragmented Word templates to a unified Oracle APEX application enhanced by generative AI. As a result, reporting was automated—turning a tedious, manual task into a seamless, high-efficiency workflow.
Challange: Inconsistent Reporting Practices
Even though Siemens Energy’s project data was stored in reliable databases, the reporting mechanism itself remained manual. Project managers had to retrieve data from multiple systems and manually copy it into individual Word documents. Because these documents were stored on local drives or scattered file shares, a true “single source of truth” did not exist.
This led to three key challenges:
- Heavy manual workload
- Inconsistent reporting descriptions
- Management lacked a holistic view
The Solution: A Unified and Intelligent System
Miracle implemented a customized reporting application using Oracle APEX, which was chosen for its rapid development model and seamless integration into Siemens Energy’s existing Oracle database environment. The new system automates the heaviest tasks.
Instead of manual writing, the APEX application fetches real-time data directly from the databases, and the report structure is programmatically defined—ensuring that all project reports are fully consistent.
The solution integrated Large Language Models (LLMs) directly into the reporting process:
- Data Aggregation: The system compiles project-related product bulletins and status entries.
- AI-Driven Analysis: The language model analyzes the material and generates clear, natural-language summaries for management. It translates technical data into a strategic business overview.
- Human-in-the-Loop: While the AI generates the initial draft, the project manager reviews, edits, and approves the final text.
This approach combines the speed of automation with human judgment. The APEX-based, AI-powered solution delivered immediate benefits for Siemens Energy: the time spent on reporting was significantly reduced, shifting the focus to project execution and risk management; management now receives a comparable and consistent view across the entire project portfolio; and eliminating manual copying virtually eradicated human error.
