At Siemens Energy, a global pioneer in energy technology, project managers spent a significant amount of time each week manually compiling reports. The process was fragmented, laborious, and inconsistent.
In collaboration with Miracle, the transition was made from scattered Word templates to a unified Oracle APEX application, enhanced by generative AI. Reporting was thus automated from time-consuming manual work into a smooth and efficient entity.
Challenge: Inconsistent Reporting Practices
Although Siemens Energy’s project data was stored in reliable databases, the reporting mechanism itself was manual. Project managers had to search for information across several different systems and copy it manually into individual Word documents. Since the documents were located on local drives or fragmented file shares, there was no true ”single source of truth.”
This led to three key problems:
- High manual workload
- Inconsistent reporting descriptions
- Management lacked an overall view
Solution: A Unified and Intelligent Entity
In the solution, Miracle implemented a customized reporting application using Oracle APEX, which was chosen for its rapid development model and seamless integration into Siemens Energy’s existing Oracle database environment. The new system automated the most demanding tasks.
Instead of manual writing, the APEX application retrieves real-time data directly from the databases, and the report structure is programmatically defined, ensuring that all project reports are consistent.
The solution integrated Large Language Models (LLM) directly into the reporting process:
- The system aggregates product bulletins and status entries related to the project.
- The language model analyzes the material and generates clear summaries in natural language for management use. It transforms technical data into a business-oriented overview.
- Human-in-the-loop: The AI generates a draft, but the project manager reviews, edits, and approves the final text.
In this way, the speed of automation and human judgment are combined. The APEX-based and AI-enhanced solution brought immediate benefits to Siemens Energy: the elimination of manual copying practically removed human errors, the time spent on reporting was significantly reduced, allowing focus to shift to project delivery and risk management, management now receives a comparable and consistent view of the entire project portfolio.
